ARC Lab Research Featured by Nebraska Public Media

ARC Lab research published in Criminology was recently featured by Nebraska Public Media. The study, led by Zachary Hamilton and coauthored by Alex Kigerl, Jennifer Tostlebe, and John Ursino, challenges conventional approaches to using criminal history to predict future offending.

Drawing on data from more than 16 million individuals, the researchers found that the predictive value of prior criminal charges declines substantially over time, with important implications for risk assessment, criminal justice decision-making, and employment background checks.

Both Hamilton and Tostlebe were quoted in the article, highlighting how the findings could inform more dynamic approaches to evaluating criminal history.
